As of May 5, 2004 The European Economic Area (EEA) has been extended as of midnight 1 May 2004, under the European Economic Area Agreement 1993, to include the 25 countries within the European Union (EU) plus three European Free Trade Association (EFTA) members but not Switzerland. This makes Europe the biggest single market in the world, with more than 450 million people.
EU Countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom
EFTA Countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway
Candidate Status: Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania.
Applications Pending: Croatia and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
