The European Economic Area (EEA) has been extended under the European Economic Area Agreement 1993, to include the 27 countries within the European Union (EU) plus three European Free Trade Association (EFTA) members but not Switzerland. This makes Europe the biggest single market in the world, with more than 450 million people.
